Description

Laser dentistry allows Dr. Wilderman to provide more procedures in his office with fewer referrals and expedited healing. He can use soft tissue lasers to treat decay below the gum line. Meanwhile, hard tissue lasers can be used to refine the gum line and achieve beautiful symmetry.

Dr. Wilderman: In our office, we have two kinds of lasers. We have a hard tissue laser and a soft tissue laser. The soft tissue laser is generally used for impression taking, or if I can't reach the decay because it's so far under the gum. And in those instances, it's such a beautiful thing because years ago, before we had dental lasers, I would have to send the patient to the periodontal surgeon before I could finish treating the tooth. Nowadays, with the soft tissue laser, it's immediate healing. I can access the decay, and they walk away from the treatment with no pain, no residual effects, no sutures, it's wonderful. The hard tissue laser we mainly use in smile design, where there's inequities in the height of the gums, there's not symmetry from left to right in the gum heights. And with the hard tissue laser, we can sculpt the gum tissue and really perfect their smile.
