Connect the Gap with Natural-Looking Teeth
When a tooth is missing, dental bridges can fill the gap. Moreover, they are a wonderful alternative to removable partial dentures. Dr. Bruce J. Wilderman proudly offers exceptional-quality dental bridges to the people of Philadelphia. At our technologically advanced suburban facilities, our dentist and staff use only the highest-grade dental materials to create bridges that fit comfortably and securely in the mouths of our patients.
Types of Dental Bridges
At Artistic Expressions Dentistry, we offer the two main types of traditional dental bridges: ceramic or porcelain fused to metal. The traditional kind of dental bridge tends to work best when teeth are present on each side of the desired gap, as the bridge is composed of two crowns to fit the teeth on either side of the gap, with an artificial tooth in the center. When there are no teeth on either side of the gap, dental implants may be used to secure the bridge instead of crowns.
Getting Dental Bridges
Dr. Wilderman divides the process of placing dental bridges into two parts:
In the first phase, the desired teeth will be prepared for the crowns, meaning part of the enamel will need to be removed. Then, an impression of your mouth will be made and sent to the lab. This mold will serve to customize the individual crowns and bridges. Until these materials are ready, our dentist may need to protect your exposed gums and teeth with a temporary bridge.
In the second phase, your office visit will begin with the removal of any temporary bridge. The permanent bridge will then be secured to the crowns and positioned carefully. This placement often requires multiple visits, as Dr. Wilderman wants to be sure the dental bridges are ideally situated for your bite.
