Porcelain Veneers for the Front Teeth
Thanks to porcelain veneers, people throughout Bucks County, Philadelphia, and Doylestown, PA can smile with confidence. Over the years, Dr. Bruce Wilderman has placed countless porcelain veneers at Artistic Expressions Dentistry, helping patients experience the joys of having a perfect smile.
Porcelain veneers are used on the front teeth, and are designed to address flaws affecting these prominent and extremely visible teeth when you smile and speak. Let’s discuss why porcelain veneers may be the best option for you and your needs.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin shells of tooth-colored dental ceramic that are affixed to the fronts of your teeth. When in place, porcelain veneers are able to mask stains, tooth discoloration, chips, cracks, and gaps from view. When in place, people will no longer be able to see various aesthetic flaws that affect your smile.
Cosmetic Problems Affecting the Front Teeth
Some of the most common problems affecting the front teeth include:
- Stains
- Discoloration
- Prominent gaps
- Chips
- Cracks
- Asymmetry
- Uneven size
- Crookedness
Porcelain veneers can be used to treat all of these above problems.
Ideal Candidates for Porcelain Veneers
The best candidates for porcelain veneers are people who suffer from cosmetic flaws affecting their teeth. They should be in otherwise good dental health. For more serious problems affecting dental alignment or tooth structure, orthodontic care or restorative dentistry is more ideal.
Since porcelain veneers require a little bit of enamel to be removed, patients should have healthy teeth with sufficient enamel. If teeth are of compromised health or their enamel structure is in question, a cosmetic dentistry alternative or another kind of dental treatment will be recommended for the patient.
The Porcelain Veneers Procedure
During the porcelain veneer procedure, a small amount of tooth enamel is shaved from the existing tooth. This is done so the veneer can fit in place and avoid protrusion that calls attention to itself. Once the tooth enamel is removed, an impression is taken of the remaining tooth structure. This impression is sent to a dental lab so the custom veneer can be created. In the interim period, patients will wear temporary veneers.
About a week to two weeks later, patients will return to the practice to have the final veneers placed. The dentist will remove the temporary veneers, check the final veneers for fit, and make any final adjustment as needed. The permanent veneers are then adhered in place.
The Results of Getting Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers can revitalize your smile, making it appear perfect and pristine. Since porcelain veneer material is semi-translucent, it blends in seamlessly with your natural tooth structure. In natural light and artificial light, they are virtually indistinguishable from your normal teeth. Similarly, people who are up close won’t even notice the veneers. All they will notice is how great your smile looks.
